About Unchained Talent
Unchained Talent is the youth-driven performing arts and mentoring program, using the arts as a hook to keep youth engaged in their education and their lives. Unchained Talent was born in response to the lack of performing arts opportunities offered in our urban schools, which can bring young people to the school building and inspire them to perform academically.
Unchained Talent
Unchained Talent is as an after-school program that seeks to use a variety of arts activities to capture the attention of young people and focus it on their education and their lives. The organization enables them to learn leadership, advocacy and life skills through mentorship and peer relationships in preparation for a productive future; and to learn about themselves and others by experiencing the outside world through performing arts and having their voices heard through the arts.
Our History
Founding Executive Director Christina Youngston began Unchained Talent in 2004 as a volunteer working with ten students in an after-school drama club that focused on theater and acting. Since that time, Unchained Talent has grown into a fully independent board-governed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving hundreds of students across Baltimore, working in partnership with Student Leadership Teams, "Unchained Parents" booster groups, dozens of volunteers, employing dozens of paid staff and providing quality after school programming using the arts as a hook to keep young people engaged in their education and their lives.
